Get the Most out of StumbleUpon – Feature that you might not have known

I know this is no Rocket science and a lot of people know about this already. But there are still millions of people who use StumbleUpon day in and day out, but never ever have heard about this technique before.

So, if you already know this trick, don’t give it a “Thumbs Down“, be generous and let other people know about this.

Normally, every time you click the Stumble! button, you are taken to another page on one of the topics you specified as your favorites. However, sometimes this is not enough. Sometimes you want more control over what kind of pages you’d like to browse through for a particular session.

And this is where the search feature inside StumbleUpon toolbar jumps in. SumbleUpon search feature allows you to surf through pages on a specified topic depending upon the keyword that you have entered. Keep in mind, if you need quality results, you will have to be “specific” while choosing keywords for your search.

To enable the search feature, go to Tools > Toolbar Options > Search and Tagging and check the “Show search/tag box” under the options group “Tagging & Search-By-Stumble“. When you click OK, you’ll have a nice search box sitting just beside the reviews balloon on the toolbar.

To test whether it works or not, enter a keyword such as “Obama” or “Economic Crises” and hit enter. Now every time you click on the Stumble button, you’ll jump to a page relating to Obama or Economic Crises (depending on the particular keyword you have entered). To return to the normal way of stumbling, click on “All” button on the toolbar.

You can even tag webpages using the search/tag box. If you are on a web page on “global warming” for instance, enter “global warming” in the box and press Shift+Enter on the keyboard. Later, you can find the pages you tagged by clicking on the “Find pages you liked” link on your StumbleUpon profile page.

Cool eh? Let me know if it worked for you.
