Play Back Ripped DVDs with DVD Play and VLC

Yesterday, we published how to rip a DVD in one click. As promised we will teach you how to play these DVDs once they are ripped. These ripped DVDs will need to be encoded to a popular compressed format like DivX.

This method has two advantages. First, ripping DVDs to the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders (the default output for these methods) means you retain the entire DVD structure, so watching the rip works just like if you were watching the DVD, complete with menus and special features. The second advantage is that you can also burn these DVDs.

Now comes the crucial part. Which application will do the job for you? From our opinion, DVD Play is a very helpful program that works side by side with another popular open-source program called VLC that will help you navigate and playback your ripped DVDs.

Finally you will also be able to play back these DVD in Windows Media Center. Check out this Microsoft KB article on enabling the DVD library in Media Center for Vista. You can even install plug-ins for Window Media Center. One of the best tools for Movie collection management and playback is called My Movies 2 that works for Windows Media Center.
