Apple Officially Unveiled Details about iPhone OS 3.0 Software
As scheduled, Apple finally unveiled its iPhone OS 3.0 software with loads of new features and several improvements that should have been made a long time ago. But as the saying goes, better late than never. The new update has come up with several new features that the iPhone fans have long awaited.
The iPhone OS 3.0 beta release includes an updated Software Development Kit (SDK) with over 1,000 new Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) including In-App Purchases; Peer-to-Peer connections; an app interface for accessories; access to the iPod(R) music library; a new Maps API and Push Notifications.

Some of the major features that are available in this updates are as follows:
- Copy and paste. Finally!
- MMS (on iPhone 3G, not on 2G)
- Stereo Bluetooth
- Landscape mode in Mail, SMS and Notes.
- Push Notifications
- Record, edit and send voice memos via email or MMS.
- Extended search (spotlight)
- Tether capability
- Send multiple photos at a time.
- Turn-by-turn navigation: apps must provide their own maps
iPhone firmware 3.0 will be available this summer. It will be available for free to iPhone 3G customers and will also work on 1st generation iPhone as well. iPhone customers will be able to download the new iPhone OS 3.0 software and iPod touch customers will be able to purchase a software update for $9.95 (US).
