Sir Tim Berners-Lee - World Wide Web
Sir Tim Berners-Lee, der Vater des World Wide Web. Am 25. Dezember 1990 führte die erste erfolgreiche Kommunikation zwischen einem HTTP-Client und Server über das Internet mit Hilfe von Robert Cailliau ein junger Student und Mitarbeiter am CERN.
Sir Tim Berners-Lee ist auch der Gründer des World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) am Massachusetts Institute of Technology, die von Unternehmen umfasst, die bereit sind, Standards und Verbesserungen des Web zu erstellen.

Butterfield hieß einer der Top 50 BusinessWeek's Leaders in der Kategorie Unternehmer und erhielt ein TR35 Auszeichnung als eines der 35 Top-Innovatoren im Alter von unter 35 von MIT's Technology Review. Marc Andreessen - Netscape

Jack Dorsey - Twitter

It's funny how Tom Anderson von Myspace nicht zu dieser Liste. Ich sage nicht, er sollte oder nicht, aber eine Weile da sie sprachen über ihn, wie er war ein Gott. Myspace übertraf Google für den täglichen Besucher in einem Punkt.
Nun ein paar Monate später, die Menschen einfach nicht scheint dies nichts auszumachen. Vielleicht, wir haben jetzt denken, oder vielleicht auch wir haben nur die Aufmerksamkeitsspanne eines 2 Jahre alt.
Soooo Facebook "geändert" im Internet, obwohl sie gerade jetzt (Jahre später) haben nur erreicht, wo bei MySpace schon seit Jahren. Wie haben Zucker-douche diese Liste und MySpace nicht? Facebook selbst hat jetzt nur noch so vielen Nutzern wie MySpace, da gingen sie international. Sie sind noch längst nicht in der Nähe von MS in Bezug auf die Nutzer in Ländern wie Großbritannien, USA, CA, MX, JP, IN. Ihre Liste ist unvollständig und Voreingenommenheit.
Ich bin mir nicht sicher, dass das Wort "atemberaubende" enthalten war genug!

Nein, hat er nicht erfunden, das Internet ... aber er war in den Prozess rechtzeitig (und in einem groß genug, so), um einige der Kredit zu nehmen.
Bill Gates gehört nicht auf dieser Liste. Er machte sein Geld mit dem Verkauf Software für Stand-alone-Computer und, wenn überhaupt, hat das Internet durch die Milliarden von Sicherheitslücken in seinen Produkten kodiert behindert.

Und wo ist Linus Torvalds, Eric Stallman und der Apache Devs? Wenn man sich das Wachstum der GNU / Linux und das Internet laufen sie ziemlich viel zusammen. Meiner Meinung nach, ohne dass diese Jungs das Internet wäre nicht in der Nähe, was es heute ist.
Es wäre ein Ort, wo nur die großen Konzerne in der Lage wäre, das Aufstellen von Websites leisten gewesen, und es gäbe schon seit viel genauere Kontrolle über den Inhalt, den Sie sehen konnte.
Auch viele der Leute auf der Liste gemacht Einsatz von Linux + Apache und ein Großteil der FOSS Zeug, um diese bahnbrechende Innovationen Internet zu schaffen.

Soweit es mich betrifft, wurde von Microsoft bedeutendsten Beitrag zu den Web MSN Messenger, in Kanada mindestens. MSN ist praktisch gleichbedeutend mit IM hier.

Ich stimme mit Ihnen beiden, und dass der einzige Grund, warum ich mit ihm zusammen an dieser Liste ist. Aber es scheint, diese Behörde Regeln in diesem Fall.
Die meisten Menschen hier sind der Ansicht, dass Gates hatten wenig oder keinen Beitrag zur Web-Entwicklung. Und das ist der Grund, warum ich musste ihn aus dieser Liste Kreuzes. Nichts für ungut though!

Ich sage nicht, Ich mag den Kerl, und als Menschen haben schon gesagt, Bill Gates war nicht wirklich daran interessiert, im Internet, bis alle anderen Akteure in der Wirtschaft bereits seine Haltung jedoch falsch, wenn Sie denken, das Internet erwiesen hatte wurde heute, wenn Microsoft hatte, ihn zu ignorieren aufbewahrt? Mit was? Ein Marktanteil von 90%, dass eine Menge von Computern, die nicht in der Lage zu bekommen online out of the box.
tl; dr: BillG eine Rolle gespielt, nur nicht in der aktiven, dass alle anderen auf der Liste haben.

I think there's room for some more at the table. These Web 2.0 folks disrupted the underlying technology on the www interface, mostly for commercial purposes, but they didn't change the Internet. It's a worthy list. Maybe the title could be tweaked or the real people who fashioned DARPA into the Internet could join them.

Bill Gates had nothing to do with the internet. To this day, in fact, Microsoft has arguably not produced full internet support, given that Windows' TCP/IP stack is a semi-broken, ugly hack which apparently works by black magic.

Lets be realistic, stumble is a great concept, but changed the internet, I don't think so, at least not yet. I would also question Digg as it is waning in popularity proving that it's just a fad.
I only started 4 years ago, and I suppose the comments made already make the large point about the Internet – everybody and anybody can have their say – whether they know anything about it or not!
It also shows human nature in the raw! Nobody is EVER satisfied! I see comments made on Google users forums, made by people who would never be able to afford the programmes offered free of charge, but they are still not satisfied..!

Let's turn that question around … where would MSFT be today if it had kept ignoring the Internet?
Microsoft had to be dragged, kicking and screaming, to the Internet party. It is still lagging behind.
It's built-in browser lags Firefox and Opera for features and there are just a lot of things that you can do with a fresh/free install of Linux that you simply cannot do with MSFT until large sums of money have changed hands.
For instance: anybody on Linux who has an IP can also host a fairly secure set of internet services using the server software provided with each distribution of Linux. With Microsoft, they are pretty much all “optional / extra”.
Microsoft is still running behind.

I wonder how much of that is due to the fact that much of the pioneering work was done in the predominantly white United States.. or, for that matter, how much is due to women historically not being taken seriously in these fields in the US.
4chan is the source of essentially every prolific internet meme out there and those memes have changed the face of the internet. Moot deserves a place in this list more than gates or jobs.
The description for “Linus Torvalds – Linux” should have mentioned that Linux was the operating system that fathered the Apache webserver; the webserver with the most market share. Without which more than half the websites you mentioned here wouldn't exist.

Having Bill gates and Steve Jobs is akin to putting G. Richard Wagoner Jr. and Alan R. Mullaly as people who changed automobiles while skipping over people such as Ferdinand Porsche and Henry Ford.

Just for clarification, Wozniak made the original Apple (as well as AppleII), Jobs helped put the cases on them and ran the buisness. I give credit to Jobs for getting Apple where it is today, but if anyone the credit should go to Steve Wozniak. Their effect on the computer industry was large, but it didn't directly effect what we now know as, “the internets”.

Gates' & Microsoft's contribution was huge in the impact they had on desktop & home computing without which the need, development & utilisaton of the Internet & related Networking technologies would never have been facilitated as we now now them.
Criticisms of the OSes, their operation & their numerous components aside, they have had a huge impact in setting up/doing things which others can & do improve & do better & lead to other alternative & better ideas.
Their success is continued because of the wide acceptance through strategic marketing & packaging of their software with home & desktop computers.
A nice list – includes almost all people who have changed the world… but what about the millions of users – who use it and increase the numbers of the website visitors for sites like craiglist.
So, you should also include – THE COMMON Internet User as the next person to be recognized.

You forgot Jean Armour Polly, who first coined the term “surfing the internet” in print and who, more importantly was the first woman on the Internet Society Board of Trustees back in the early 1990s along with many others on your list. She was a pioneer in advocating for equity of access to the internet for everyone, regardless of their ability to afford a computer or physical proximity to connectivity. She advocated for this primarily through public libraries (she is a librarian) and helped to cement the importance of the connection between libraries and the internet and the information age which has been recognized by both Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Google (as evidenced by the millions of dollars they have poured into providing access to the internet through all through their respective public library funding initiatives). If you want a woman on the list, Jean is the person who should be there. She was and still is years ahead of her time. The average person's ability to access the internet is due in large part to Jean's vision.

This has probably been said before or is old news, but what about 4chan.org's moot and SomethingAwful.com's Rich “Lowtax” Kyanka. 4chan makes up about 1% of the internet these days and is responsible for some of the most prolific internet memes which are now influencing popular culture. Lolcats, rickrolling etc. are all products of 4chan and despite its reputation as the asshole of the internet, has to be mentioned somewhere here.

Great comprehensive view of important people on the net. I disagree with some of those people who “changed the net”. Many of them didn't really create anything innovative. For example amazon is nothing that innovative but on the other hand Wikipedia was a very innovative idea.

While I am not a huge fan of our current US President, Barack Obama, I would have to say that his team at least changed how politicians use the internet.
It seems like any politician that wants to stand a chance has to be on Twitter and Facebook and pretty much every other social networking site.

Bill Gates and Steve Jobs should not be on that list. They pioneered nothing internet-related. Seriously, stop giving them credit for other people's hard work and ingenuity.
The sad thing is I had created a website similar to twitter, with the SMS integration a few years back, and the software was stolen so I gave up on the project. I had several people using my software without my permission, but hey what can you do. I have created many websites that are similar to twitter, flickr way before they where even a thought in the current creators mind. It sucks, it really does.
Its really annoying and unfair if any one steals your hardwork and attributes it to himself.
You forgot 4chan up there. It started with the motivational posters and the lolcats/can i has chezburgr. Hell 4chan created a lot of internet jokes and if you have retarded things like Myspace and Facebook up there then you should have Moot up there as the creator of 4chan.

You never spoke about how the military used the internet. I have no connection I just think that it is a vital point in how it was created. On a sadder note, what the @&$!. I kick myself every time I see a new site take off. It reminds me of my favorite invention, the paper clip. Why didn't I think of that, so simple.

@ Walter Earnshaw The reason I didn't add Creators of FireFox is that they weren't the pioneers of internet back in the early days of the web. Although now the scenario has changed, they haven't developed anything out of the ordinary. Bill Gates the creator of Microsoft has already been mentioned above in the list.

What a great list of people who changed the Digital Era for all of us either in good or bad way.
I guess whenever 'you' landed in a fertile land, with 'your' hard works, and positive thought 'you' are able to reach to highest seat of fame.
Good luck for the rest of other people who could be in this line.
This list is one of the best that I have seen I think that Gosling needs to be added too.
first of all thanks to the author of this list who efforted some time of research, to make it.
i guess almost all of these people mentioned in this list above so far put their financial outcome in first place rather than to positively revolutionize the internet and the way people look at it as it is today with all its nice helpful things.
they all more or less influenced the internet in the way it appears today but the true heroes in my opinion are those, who fight for and create open source software, fair regulations (for instance the GNU license, or just CC) for all users, developers, idealists and possibilities, to get everyone with less financial power involved as they like to be part of it.
i´d like to see this list more defined like if you talk about steve jobs, please also add steve wozniak to it, because he deserves it and was also the main electronic expertise of the very beginning of apple computers.
Richard Stallman of Gnu License also deserves to be on your list, because
he makes the internet more essential and real of using and modifying source code for the overall user.
(linus torvalds should be higher positioned in this list though !)
after all i would say that your list contains to much people how got rich than changing the personal freedom of the users. if they haven´t done it others would in other periodes of time and other names. but the result would be similar in the basics.
the idea of “changing the internet forever” to me seems more like sharing valueable information with everyone and also give back instead of only taking.
