If you are on a shared computer and you are worried that someone might sneak onto your personal information. Don’t worry, although private browsing has not made its way to FireFox yet, but you can still clear your private data in FireFox easily.

Before we begin, we need to know what information/personal data FireFox is saving. We’ll take a look at them one by one:

Cookies
Cookies are files created by web sites, that store information on your computer, such as your preferences when visiting that site.

Saved Passwords
This contains a list of user names and passwords you have chosen FireFox to remember.

Browsing History
This contains a log web locations that you have visited previously.

Offline Website Data
Data stored onto your system by websites to be accessed later when offline.

Saved Form and Search History
This contains a list of phrases you have entered in text fields, such as web searches, and name and address fields.

Download History
This keeps a list of files you have downloaded.

Authenticated Sessions
Keeps you logged into secure web sites, you have already used the password manager to log in to.

Cache
This stores temporary files, such as web pages and other online media, that you have downloaded from the Internet.

Once you know what FireFox saves onto your computer. We move onto another task of manually removing all the personal data from FireFox, later in this section, we’ll teach you how to set FireFox to automatically remove saved data.

Manually Remove Private Data

Open FireFox, and on the top left side, in the menu bar - select Tools > Clear Private Data. (Or use alternative keyboard combination Ctrl + Shift + Del ) Mark the data you want to clear, then click on Clear Private Data Now.

In order to do this, go to Tools > Options and then click on Privacy Tab. Then, look at the settings listed under Private Data. You will be provided with two options; i.e.

Ask me before clearing private data

Select the first option. Clicking on the “Settings” will allow you to choose what is cleared when you exit FireFox.

Voila! And don’t forget to set a Master Password over your user names and Passwords for added security. If you follow all this all your worries will be over!

Access Rapidshare at Banned Places

You are at your home or office and desperately want to access Rapidshare, but find your self restricted to the access. Then you should probably download Rapidshare @ Office.

I know by this time you will be thinking that its just another web proxy to access banned sites, but you are wrong! It is not a proxy site but a Firefox extension, similar to the one used to access flickr in banned countries.

What this add-on does is that it just looks the IP of the download page and uses this information to download the required file. Once the add-on is installed and added to your firefox browser toolbar, simply copy and paste the URL of Rapidshare link and paste it onto the toolbar, then click the ‘Next‘ button on the toolbar that will change the URL so that the IP is used for accessing the download page.

A Javascript window will pop out once the IP has been converted and will display a dialogue box -see screenshot.

NOTE: It will work where the admin has ONLY banned Rapidshare.com, otherwise it won’t work. Another draw back is that you will have to log in to Mozilla’s website in order to avail the facility, the reason is that the Firefox add-on is in experimental stages.

1. FoxFilter 5.7

FoxFilter is a personal content filter that helps prevent stumbling onto inappropriate content and block access to user-specified content and Web sites.

2. CookieSafe

This extension will allow you to easily control cookie permissions. It will appear on your status bar. Just click on the icon to allow, block, or temporarily allow the site to set cookies.

3. Adblock Plus

The best security you can get in a web browser! Allow active content to run only from sites you trust, and protect yourself against XSS and Click-jacking attacks.

7. Flashblock

Flashblock is an extension for the Mozilla, FireFox, and Netscape browsers that takes a pessimistic approach to dealing with Macromedia Flash content on a web page and blocks ALL Flash content from loading.

The only problem most of you who prefer anonymous browsing is that you will only be able to avail this facility at your home or on your personal computer/laptop. What if you want to surf when you are at your friend’s place, at school or office.

With OperaTor you can take it where ever you want by installing it onto your USB stick. Download the 7MB file and once downloaded unzip it in your USB drive and use it. There is no install, just click the icon to open the browser.

With OperaTor no data will be stored at the computer you plugged your portable memory stick into. Reset the Master Password in Opera | How To

After sharing how to reset Master password on Firefox, I got several emails requesting me if I could teach them how to reset a Master Password on Opera. Therefore this post is solely for those who want to learn on how to reset Master Password on Opera.

Those who do not use Opera on their system can look for other great geeky Tips and How To’s. This trick involves TWO CASES each of four steps, but before you begin don’t forget to save your work and close all the applications running on your Opera browser. Then follow the instructions as mentioned below:

CASE I

Goto Tools → Preferences → Advanced → Security

Check if Master Password to protect saved passwords is enabled

Search for opcert6.dat & wand.dat in the Opera profile directory (located in Documents & Settings by default).

Now rename or delete them. (Deleting wand.dat file is preferred)

CASE II

Goto Tools → Preferences → Advanced → Security

Check if Master Password to protect saved passwords is disabled

Search for opcert6.dat in the Opera profile directory (located in Documents & Settings by default).

Now rename or delete it.

Please note that deleting wand.dat will remove all stored passwords from Opera Wand. Although this trick is quite simple but in case you prefer not to follow this, then you can give some applications a try [HERE]. Enjoy!
