How to Install

Click the download link. You’ ll see the following link at the bottom of this page:

1. If you see this message, click the “Edit Options…” button, then “Allow”, then “Close”, and click the install button again.

2. Click the “Install Now” button in the dialog. The Firefox add-ons window will appear confirming the installation.

3. After you have installed the extension, close all open Firefox windows and restart your browser.

4. Open Gmail, and you’ll see Remember The Milk for Gmail.

Once installed, you will see a tasks pane on the right in Gmail. which you can customize to show only certain tasks, how to sort the tasks, and how to groups the tasks.

To change the settings, navigate to Settings menu in Gmail and you can see a new tab Task added.

In order to further increase your productivity while designing a website, you should consider using a Firefox extension IE Tab, which lets you switch back and forth between firefox and IE with out having you to open the two browsers separately.

With this handy tool you can see how your website looks in IE by opening it inside Firefox’s tab. By clicking your right mouse button on any link you wish to see in IE, scroll over ‘Open Link in IE Tab‘ and that page will open inside Firefox, but on a new tab.

You also have the leverage to set your own preferences by opening the IE Tab Option menu. My personal opinion about this tool is that it will save a lot of your precious time and resources while developing a web page. It’s compatible with Firefox 3.0 and above.

Before we begin, Download the NeoTunnel DMG file , install it onto your system. Once the NeoTunnel is installed and initiated, the secure tunnel will be automatically restarted whenever you restart your computer.

1. You will have to configure Firefox to use the proxy, in order to do this select Firefox -> Preferences from the Firefox main menu,  “General” icon, and then on the “Connection Settings” button.

NOTE: Do not forget to list neomailbox.net, neomailbox.nl, www.neomailbox.net, and www.neomailbox.nl in the “No Proxy for:” field, as the NeoTunnel proxy does not proxy requests for the Neomailbox Netherlands site itself. If you don’t list these domains here, you won’t be able to view the Neomailbox Netherlands site once the tunnel is activated.

4. Click “OK” and then “OK” again on the main preferences window.

Now all your web requests from Firefox will go through our SSL secured anonymous surfing proxy and the results will be returned to you via the SSL secured channel.

FireFox 2 had a very useful and popular add-on called SpeakIt, the bad news was that after the release of firefox 3 this add-on became incompatible with the latest version that disappointed many people.

Recently, a very clever person changed the compatibility of SpeakIt and made it available for FireFox 3 as well. What this nifty FireFox extension does is that it utilizes text to speech capabilities of the operating system to provide the means to read out text aloud to the user.

It integrates itself nicely in the right-click context menu and can be used to read out all of the text on a website or only the selected text. ImageTweak shows images centered in the window, against a neutral gray background and allows to freely zoom and move the image, much like any decent image viewer. You are also given the option to select the Background Color, Zoom Factor, and other features from the option menu.

ImageTweak started as a small enhancement to allow viewing images in an acceptable way, but has now become an image viewer with dragging and zooming.
Right-click (or arrow keys) to scroll, ctrl+scroll the mouse wheel (or +/-) to zoom, double-right-click (or space-bar) to cycle through full-view, 1:1-view and free-view.

Despite its benifits for protecting your PC from certain viruses, it makes systems with low processing power even more slower.

FireFox gives you the leverage to safely turn off this option, in case you have a strong anti-virus installed onto your system. In order to disable this feature, follow the instructions mentioned below:

Type about:config in address bar and press Enter.

Press “I will be careful, I promise!” button (shown in the screen-shot above). Now in the filter bar type the following,

browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone

A Boolean value set as true by default, will be displayed as can be seen in the screenshot below.

Change the value to false, by double clicking on the entry. Voila!

One option to further enhance the performance of firefox is by manually changing the values in “about:config“; (type it in the address bar, without quotes). Newbie’s will find it really hard to tweak this way.

Another useful alternative, that I found to optimize firefox is using FireTune – a freeware that enable you to optimize several internal settings of firefox for better performance.

Since the process is fully automated, you don’t have to regret of not knowing the “geeky” stuff. Select from the available options that suits your requirement and FireTune accordingly.

The simple way to tell whether Firefox is faster after optimizing is to follow these instructions.

• Clear the cache of Firefox from the Firefox settings dialog – this is very crucial!

• Before you optimize Firefox, navigate to http://www.numion.com/stopwatch/and do a speed test on http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

• The time needed to load the site completely will be displayed to you in the browser window. Write down the time

• Clear the cache of Firefox from the Firefox settings dialog again – this is also very crucial!

• Now, close Firefox, and optimize it with FireTune

• Start Firefox again, and repeat the speed test on http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

• Compare the displayed result with the result from the test before the optimization
