Other interesting capabilities found in the configuration files include “magnetometer“, “auto-focus camera” and “Voice Control“.

There are two ways to take screen shots from an iPhone; one way is to use the built in screen capture facility to take screenshots, while the other one involves taking screen shots and then transferring it onto your computer. In this tutorial, I will demonstrate both the procedures one by one.

Step #1. First up, navigate the iPhone to the screen you want to create an image of,

Step #2. Then hold down the home (bottom) button and at the same time press the power (top) button, as shown on the right;

Step #3. The screen will flash and an image will be automatically saved and stored,

Step #4. Click the Photos icon on your iPhone or iPod Touch, this is where your screen shots will be stored.

Step #1. For this you’ll need to download and install iPhone SDK, which is absolutely free of cost,

Step #2. Open Xcode and open the Organizer window,

Step #3. Plug-in the device and after a few moments it will appear in the list of devices on the left pane,

Note: You’ll be prompted whether you want to allow this device for development or not, click to proceed.

Step #4. Now click the “Screenshot” tab in the Organizer window and you are ready to capture any screenshots from the device.

Note: Built in screen capture feature is not available with iPhone and iPod Touch with firmware OS version 1.x.

Mac users were considerablly lucky to create their very own ring-tones using GarageBand, but unfortunately users of Windows very deprived from the fun until now.

Thanks to the new iTunes version you can instantly convert DRM-free song into a ring-tone. Mac users can also follow this trick but for them using GarageBand is a better option over this one. For those who don’t know about DRM (Digital Rights Management) can read this article.

To create free iPhone ring-tones from your iTunes, follow these simple steps:

1. Open iTunes 8 and select any song that you are going to make into a ringer,

2. Right click on the song and select ‘Get info‘ from the menu,

3. Go to the ‘Options‘ tab and go down and check both of the boxes; namely ‘Start Time‘ and ‘Stop Time‘ check boxes. Make sure your ringtone is under 30-seconds. Press OK when finished.

4. Click on ‘Advanced‘ in your menu bar. Select ‘Create AAC Version‘ or ‘Create Apple Lossless Version‘. Make sure your iTunes ‘Import Settings‘ are set to ‘AAC‘ or ‘Apple Lossless‘ and not ‘MP3′ in the Import Using menu.

5. After the encoding is finished navigate to your iTunes Music folder, locate your song, and drag it to your desktop.

6. Go back to the original song i.e. on the iTunes and delete the clipped version from you iTunes library. Don’t worry, it won’t get deleted from the desktop.

7. Rename the extention of the file that you copied on the desktop from .m4a to .m4r. For instance, ‘filename.m4a‘ to ‘filename.m4r’. However, in Windows you’ll have to uncheck ‘Hide extensions for know file types‘ first by going to Tools -> Folder Options -> View and under Files and Folders uncheck the hide extensions box.

8. Drag and drop the newly renamed .m4r file back into iTunes or simply double click on the file to add it to your iTunes library under the ring-tones section.

9. Synchronize your iPhone to get your new iPhone ring-tones!

Note: Songs downloaded from Apple Music Store won’t work. This process works with MP3, non protected ACC, and AIFF files and don’t forget to uncheck start and stop time boxes, otherwise songs won’t run properly in future. Enjoy!

The iPhone, however, takes a special cable that comes with the phone. Go through the box the phone came in and grab the software box and the cable to connect the phone. Start up your laptop and insert the disc with the software into the computer.

Once the icon for the disc appears on your desktop, double click the icon and follow the prompts. Once the software finishes installing you will most likely be asked to re-start the computer, go ahead and do this. When your computer restarts, plug the cable into the computer and into your phone. Some phones, once connected, may instantly open the corresponding software that is needed to synchronize your phone. If the software does not open you will need to locate and open the needed software.

How To Synchronize Your Phone With Your Laptop – Final Steps

Now that you have your phone connected and you have installed all the software you will want to open the software and learn all the features that the software offers. You need to setup your software to synchronize your phone according to your preferences. You can set your calendar features, contact list, to do list, music and more depending on the model phone you have.

Once the software is set to your preferences hit the button that says synchronize. You will be told that your phone is being synchronized and you do not want to disconnect your phone until it is done being synchronized.

After Phone/Laptop Synchronization

Once your phone has finished synchronizing you can disconnect your phone from the laptop and cable. Double check your phone to make sure the information is there, if so you are done and on your way. If not there are a couple things to double-check. If troubleshooting you will want to make sure you have all the software and that there are no updates or additional software from the manufacturer’s website. You will want to check to make sure you had all your connections right.

Lastly its possible that you did not set the software appropriately so double-check the software. Being able to synchronize your phone to your laptop is easy and is a great feature to have especially if you should lose your phone.

Despite all the convenience of automatic detection and conversion, the conversion and transferring process itself is very painstaking and time consuming. In the end it will depend on the user himself, whether he would compromise convenience over speed.
