How to Add Recycle Bin Icon to Windows 7 Taskbar

If Windows 7 is in your use for some time now, you might have noticed that it does not allow you to pin icons directly on to the taskbar. For instance, if you have tried dragging and placing ‘Recycle Bin‘ on the taskbar, you probably might have noticed that it gets pinned under the Windows Explorer rather than appearing as a separate icon on the taskbar as it normally would appear in Windows Vista orWindows XP.

In order to place a ‘Recycle Bin’ you’ll need to tweak it a little bit. The idea is very simple; create a shortcut and point it to the original Recycle Bin and then place that created shortcut onto the taskbar. Now the question is how are we going to point a shortcut to the original Recycle Bin folder? Simple; add a small snippet (code) to it.

This is what you will have to do to place an icon on to the taskbar;

Step #1. Right-Click on the desktop and go to New->Shortcut (its the second option from above);

Step #2. Now add the following line in the item box;

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe shell:RecycleBinFolder

Step #3. Hit Next, type a new name, in this case; Recycle bin and hit Enter;

Once the new icon is created, you’ll notice that it does not have the right icon image. In order to counter this problem, Right click on the icon, select Properties from the menu,

Step #4. A new pop-up window will now appear, click on the ‘change icon‘ button (as shown below) and hit Enter;

Step #5. A small window will pop out, type the following code inside the item box;

%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll

Step #6. Now look for the appropriate Recycle bin icon, once you have found it, select and hit OK. Reference screenshot below;

The last step is to drag and drop the newly created icon onto the taskbar. You can then delete the original icon if you want to. Told you it was simple! Image Courtesy: TweakWin7

Microsoft Launches its Online Store

As of yesterday, Microsoft launches its first online store particularly for the UK, Usa, Germany and Korea, but have plans to further broden its sphere to other countries very soon.

This Online store compirses of all the microsoft products available, including, Windows, Office, Microsoft Zune, Xbox 360 Consoles, Windows Live Care, web-cams and microsoft hardware such as mouse and keyboards etc and several other products will be made available.

In a blog posting, Trevin Chow, a senior program manager, said:

“With this launch, our customers in the US are able to buy first-party software and hardware directly from Microsoft offered in a comprehensive online catalogue.

People will be able to re-download software products that they buy for as long as Microsoft supports the product, typically five years. Customers can also copy the software onto disks for future access.

Microsoft will store product keys for buyers, who will be able to access the keys online if they need to re-install the software.

Upload to Facebook and Youtube using Windows Live Photo Gallery

Microsoft has released two new plugins, namely; LiveUpload to Facebook & LiveUpload to Youtube, through which you will be able to upload and share photos and/or videos with your friends and co-workers, by using Windows Live Photo Gallery Beta.

You do not need to have a Windows Live account but you will obviously need a Facebook and Youtube account to upload photos/videos, right from your PC to your respective accounts.

How to Upload Photos to FaceBook?

Its very easy and simple. First, you will have to link your Facebook account with Windows Live Photo Gallery application, its a one time process.

Once this is done, you will have to make an album, if in case there is no album available in your Facebook account, then choose images that you want to upload onto Facebook, then choose Publish > LiveUpload To Facebook option from the main menu.

You will then be prompted to select an account and then an album to upload images. You can also link multiple accounts to the application or create another album for an existing Facebook account.

How to Upload Videos to Youtube?

In this case the plugin works with either of the two applications; Windows Live Photo Gallery or Windows Live Movie Maker.

It works by selecting one video in one of the supported applications and initiating the upload from the Publish > Live Upload To Youtube menu. A popup will appear asking for a Youtube username and password.

After a successful login a new window will appear with options to enter a title, description, keywords, a category and permissions for that video.

Click publish to upload your video onto Youtube.

Download Windows 7 Calculator and Install it in Windows Vista

Microsoft has made a major revamp on the Calculator program that comes with Windows 7.

The Microsoft Windows Calculator can perform all of the functions of most four-function (standard) or scientific calculators, and that’s all about it in term of features.

Beside that it has only a simplified user interface, and the core feature set has largely remained unchanged in form and function since Windows 95.

All you have to do is, unpack the content to another folder, and run the calc.exe to use the Windows 7 Calculator in Windows Vista.

To replace existing default Calculator program in Windows Vista, copy calc.exe to \Windows\System32\, and calc.exe.mui (in en-US folder) to \Windows\System32\en-US\ folder, overwriting existing file.

Your Done! Now the new Windows 7 Calculator has been installed on Windows Vista.

Extend Windows 7 Trial Period Upto 90 Days

The release of Windows 7 is still a year away before you get your hands on it, and I was eagerly waiting to get an actual glimpse of how Window 7 Pre-beta feels like and finally I succeeded in getting, not a full version though, but a trial version of it.

Unless you attended the PDC 2008 and got an activation key for Windows 7, there is no way you can extend the pre-defined trial version of 30-days.

However, time flies why you are diving in these OS, in order to get more out of it, and to get familiar with all the new features that they have placed in; 30-days seems to be such a short period.

I bring you a simple trick that will extend your 30 days trial version to a more acceptable one of 3 months! Now, how cool is that?

1. Download Windows 7 Pre-beta and burn the image file (*.ISO) to DVD.

2. Install Windows 7 Pre-beta using the DVD and while installation make sure to not put any activation
key.

3. Once the installation is complete, open Command Prompt.

4. Type the following command into the Open textbox, or from the Command Prompt:

sysprep /generalize

slmgr.vbs –rearm

rundll32 slc.dll,SLReArmWindows

5. Click OK or press ENTER.

6. Reboot your system, and enjoy another 30 days free trial of Windows 7.

Keep in mind that this works on twice, therefore, make sure that you refresh the trial period when its about to expire.

6 Excellent Vista Themes for Windows XP

Today, I bring you yet another post on Microsoft! It seems as we have got addicted to Microsoft some how, because we never talked about Windows, until last week.

You might want to take a look at the posts previously written, here. It will take a year for the next operating system to get released and to get to know all the features that are in it, particularly its themes.

Although, Window Vista didn’t get as much appreciation as Windows XP, despite that people love it for the eye candy that it offers. But not every one can afford an upgrade to Window Vista.

Therefore, to quench your thirst for Vista, you can give Windows XP a taste of Vista. Having said that, these visual styles can only give you a slight feeling of Vista, but can’t touch the real amount of elegance that Vista offers.

No one has any idea as to what the actual Windows 7, announced at PDC, will be like. But you can have a rough idea, after seeing all those pictures floating on the web, that the upcoming Window will be exactly like Vista.

Only a few features have been added. If you cannot wait anymore until the release of Windows 7 you can try out Windows 7 themes for Windows XP.

In order to install the theme on Window XP you will have to patch it with uxtheme.dll file.

How to Patch uxtheme.dll File

1. Download it from here

2. Run .exe file

3. Press patch button, and wait patiently

4. Restart after patching is done.

However, if you want to replace the file manually, then download it from here, and paste it in C:\Windows\system32\. reboot your system for changes to take effect.

You will now be able to use 3rd party themes without any problems!

Windows users have high expectation with Windows 7 that was announced at PDC. Users are dying to look at the new features that will be available in this latest release.

As previously blogged about the newest wallpapers that will be available in Windows 7 (Some of my readers were having difficulty in downloading the latest wallpapers, therefore, I have made available another link to download from).

Recently, a lot of buzz has been created by Microsofts upcoming Operating System, formerly known to the world as Blackcomb, then Vienna and now Windows 7. Users from all over the Globe are dying to get every single detail that they can lay their hands on.

Many new features are expected in Window 7, such as improved system tray, thicker sidebar, to name a few. Also included are a range of new wallpapers (as below) for Windows users to select for their desktop backgrounds.

For those who want to add a little but of touch to their previous operating system can download it from the link provided at the end of this post.

Introduction to Windows 7 with Screenshots

About a week ago, Microsoft introduced Windows 7 at the professional Developers Conference. The session was an overview of some new features demonstrated on Windows 7 build 6933.winmain.081020-1842.

By looking at the sreenshots, you won’t find any considerable difference between Window Vista and Windows 7. Although changes have been made in the Connection Manager, a thicker Taskbar, improved system tray with no sidebar and Explorer.

In short we can conclude that it will be similar to Window Vista in terms of it Visual Interface, but with a different technology.

Obviously nothing can be said about the changes made in Windows 7, until its official release which is still years away, but these early builds suggest that Microsoft is working hard to smooth some of Vista’s rough edges.

New features of Windows Media Player 12

Despite that the release of Windows 7 is still a year away, many users from all over the world can’t wait to get a sneak preview of these features.

Previously considered by people was that many applications will only be available until Windows 7 release, but according to Peter Bright, a handful of these applications will be made available prior to the release of Windows 7. Among the release will be Window Media Player 12.

Although a lot of new features have been added to the latest version of WMP 12, but despite that, the experience will be almost the same. The User interface (UI) is much lighter and brighter when compared with WMP 11.

One of the major difference will be of the removal of the “Now Playing Button”. A new Taskbar miniviewer feature has also been added that works with Windows 7.

Microsoft Windows Azure Cloud OS platform

On a Monday morning Microsoft unveiled its latest Window named Azure, a software and services platform for cloud computing.

Applications created within Azure can run from the cloud or even enhance non-cloud based applications with the hive-like features.

It was suppose to be Windows Strata but finally it has been unveiled as Windows Azure. Apparently just one component of Microsoft’s larger Azure cloud computing platform, which will eventually be fully rolled out alongside Windows 7.

The Azure Services Platform is an internet-based platform hosted at Microsoft data centers. It is a flexible platform that can be used to build new applications to run from the cloud or enhance existing applications with cloud-based capabilities.

Window Azure can be used for a variety of purposes including; web service capabilities to existing packaged applications, you can even perform services off-side premises, you can easily create test, debug and share web-services instantly.

In its embryonic stages Azure will be free with certain usage limits; after that, pricing will be based on a consumption, considering machine hours, storage, bandwidth and transactions.
