Leaked: Exclusive Apple iPhone 3.0 Screenshots Featuring Video Recording

Just got hold of some of the leaked images of a new video recording application feature that the iPhone fans are hoping to see in the final version of iPhone 3.0 which is expected to be released later this Summer.

The interface is just the same as the normal iPhone camera interface but with a switch on the bottom right which toggles between still camera photography and video recording. Other interesting capabilities found in the configuration files include “magnetometer“, “auto-focus camera” and “Voice Control“.

iKnow! An Open learning Platfrom, makes Language Learning Social and Open to 188 Languages

Do you want to interact with the world in their own language? If you are willing to gain knowledge of more than one language, then you should probably visit iKnow! launched by a company called Cerego, which gives you a new adaptive learning system for English speakers who want to learn a new language.

The iKnow! platform currently offers comprehensive tools and content for learning both English and Japanese, with support for other major language pairs to follow. These tools allow users to create learning modules in 188 languages of study and then collaborate with other users to make corrections, add additional items and discuss the process.

There are also courses, although right now they are limited to English and Japanese, that let you study terms but it’s not restricted to just those two – iKnow! can support any language. That’s because iKnow is an open learning platform, starting with languages and progressing to any content domain.

iKnow! platform is already very popular with its 340 thousand of registered users. These users are rather active on the platform as well: for example, last month they spent over 16 million minutes (or 270 thousand hours) learning on iKnow! and mastered over 20 million language learning items.

When a user creates a language item he or she wants to learn and remember, iKnow! will offer possible matches from its own data base as translations for these items. If iKnow fails to find a match in the existing data base, it will try to retrieve a meaning to suggest to the user from the Google’s Language API.

The service is still in its beta phase, but absolutely free. What it promises is really impressive. The idea of a social learning platform has possibilities beyond just language and it will be exciting to see where this type of technology leads us in the future.

WordPress 2.7 Release Scheduled this Evening | 4 December, 2008

The beta version of WordPress 2.7 was available for the past few months. But that wasn’t enough. Everyone was anxiously waiting for the final release of WordPress 2.7. The time has finally arrived.

After being behind schedule, the WordPress team has finally spoken and have decided to release it this evening. i.e. on December 4, 2008.

WordPress 2.7 represents a huge shift away from earlier versions of WordPress. The changes made in the admin area are huge. Most of the changes will be visible to bloggers, but not blog readers.

As already discussed, they have revamped WordPress Dashboard, the navigation menus have all been moved to the left side of the screen, giving you more room at the top of the page, collapsible sub-menus have been added, which allows you to navigate the administration interface without reloading the page as often.

Similarly, Numerous font updates have been made, search for and install plugins without leaving the admin area plus several fixes; PHP Notice fixes, Menu fixes, etc.

Most notable is that for the first time, an automatic upgrade tool is included in WordPress so you can upgrade to WordPress 2.7.1 or 2.8 or whatever new versions are on the horizon without having to fire up an FTP client.

The real fun would be to practically see the new version of WordPress 2.7. I can’t wait to try this out. What are your thoughts on this latest release?

Edit: According to DownloadSquad; Matt pointed out that WordPress will see the roll out of WordPress 2.7 sometime this evening. There is no official word on when WordPress.org will release the self-hosted version, though the first release candidate is available now. — CEW

wePapers – Creating the World’s Biggest Study Group

Years have passed in my education, and I often wonder how the Internet and its bevy of study tools would have affected my grades. Could it have been the difference between a C+ and a B-? I guess we’ll never know.

A new service by the name of wePapers, has just launched a new free online service that will help students and anyone seeking academic knowledge come together to share and upload academic material, discuss what they study and mainly – find tons of quality academic documents (from lecture notes and exam to peer-reviewed articles).

wePapers is a web application that operates like an online study group, and serves students and professors alike (as-well everyone else who hungers for knowledge). Users can discuss different topics and help each-other. Users can also download and view thousands of academic documents from world leading institutions such as MIT, Hebrew University and UCLA, varying from lecture notes to peer-reviewed articles.

Similarly the way YouTube allows users to view movies right inside their browser – wePapers let its users read documents and presentation right within their browsers (with the option to download them to their own computers, too).

wePapers filters out content to provide only quality academic material. It also provides many tools designed especially for students and lecturers: the ability to filter content by institution, language, subject, etc. to help users get the specific information they’re seeking much faster. wePapers has just launched its public beta, after a long testing period (the private beta users have been students and researchers from UCLA and Hebrew University).

According to Hanan Weiskopf, co-founders of wePapers:

“Our top mission is to help students share their knowledge, learn from others and ace the agonizing world of academic studies. We want to allow knowledge to run freely in the world – and provide resources for those who can’t afford going to college.”

StumbleUpon got a New Look

In the recent past StumbleUpon team where putting all there efforts to make stumbling experience even more thrilling and exciting for their users. At first they removed the 200 friends limit and later on redesigned their interface and added extra features to it.

Today, when I opened my browser and just to give a glace, opened my StumbleUpon profile, I saw a new option to “Try out the new StumbleUpon“, I immediately clicked it and with in seconds my profile page was transformed into a very different and pleasant one. See image:

On further investigation I found out that they had completely changed their previous interface into a new one. They have also improved user profile pages and have optimized many other major parts, these changes should help make discovering and sharing great Web content easier than ever.

Mygazines Closed Down Due to Insufficient Funds

As previously blogged about mygazines.com – a site that allows you to upload, share and read almost any magazines online is now closed due to insufficient funds, that’s a major sat back to all those who free magazine lovers.

If you happen to visit Mygazines.com, the team has put up a brief explanation and apology of the close down.

Opera 9.60 Officially Released!

Good news for the die heart fans of Opera, who had been waiting for several months of updated version of Opera. Today, after a number of beta builds, the Norwegian company Opera Software officially launched version 9.6 of its browser.

Now Discover Sites from Anywhere with Stumbleupon

People use StumbleUpon because it lets you discover and bookmark new websites and blogs from all over the world. If you like a particular post and want to let others read that post, you give it a “thumbs up” by using the toolbar already installed on your Firefox or Internet Explorer.

The staff members of StumbleUpon have been working quite hard to make Stumbling a better experience for its registered users by introducing new features into its system, including the removal of 200 friends limit.

In order to further enhance their system, they introduced another great feature yesterday, which will allow people to stumble new websites without having to install any toolbar and without going through the hassle of registration. It will also help those Stumblers who are using Google Chrome or other browsers.

With this new features anyone can stumble websites just by visiting StumbleUpon. It has also been reported that StumbleUpon is soon going to upgrade its profile pages, navigation, user reviews, ratings and comments.

Still in its embryonic stages, they have also announced new partner program with an integrated StumbleUpon toolbar that Stumbles content only within one site.

StumbleUpon has finally rolled out its new features, as planned. Not only StumbleUpon has removed its 200 friends limit, but also added some extra features to Stumblers profile, that would spice your experience even further!

People with sharp eyes, must have already observed that now, instead of fans, you would notice “Subscribers“.

You would also get an alert by StumbleUpon, when some one adds you to his friends-list. You would have the freedom to choose whether you like to add that person to your friends-list or to reject his/her invitation.

Another interesting thing that I noticed was that when you visit some one’s else profile, you would notice “How Similar are you” feature. This feature helps you make friends with common interests. It simply compares the interests that you have with that person’s interests, and displays then in percentage form, with a some what funny message next to it.

As you all know Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to send updates, which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.

But have you ever wondered of advertising on Twitter? This is where TwittAd has jumped into the scene to provide Twitter users and advertisers with a chance to promote products and aptly place them upon the User’s Profile.

The basic idea behind TwittAd was to give Twitter users and advertisers the opportunity to promote their websites or products on a Twitter user’s profile. But I wouldn’t want my Twitter profile to be filled with odd ads, all the time. Surprisingly, TwittAd has a solution of making sure that they keep the integrity of Twitter background images.

From my point of view, I don’t consider placing ads on my Twitter Profile. I mean whats the point of placing your ads, when no one or hardly a handful of visitors will visit the homepage and respond to Twits. Advertisers will soon lose interest if they found of that your profile is not generating much publicity to them.

New iPods Coming – Says Kevin Rose

According to Kevin Rose – Founder of Digg.com, he blogged that the lastest iPods and iTunes will get announced by Apple pretty soon.

Keven Rose, rumored this news, past week. Here is a list which he thinks will be released by Apple:

The iPod nano will take on a slimmer, more rounded look.
Revamp of entire iPod line.
iPod touch 2.1 software, will be updated very soon.
iTunes 8.0 will be a major new release with several additional features.
Further out Apple is planning to add Blu-ray support to Mac OS X.
Prices of iPods will drop to distance itself from the $199 iPhone.
The above will be released in the next up coming days.

Adsense for Feeds is Now Live!

Today aftenoon, when I logged into my Google Adsense account, I was surprised to see that “Adsense for feeds” was appearing under reports tab. The long awaited Adsense for Feeds have now been made available to all bloggers. Following image illustrates my point (click to enlarge):

The moment you click on the Adsense for Feeds button, you will directed to a screen where you can select the way you want to show your ad on the feed, several options are provided – see screenshot (click to enlarge)

But there is a problem with this. They will ask you on which feed you want to display the ad, instead of feedburner, they are referring to feedburner.google.com.

Following message can be seen at the bottom of the page:

You have no feeds in your account yet. Already have an account with feedburner.com? Need help migrating your feeds to Google? View our account migration guide and get those feeds over here!

You can also burn a new feed right now to display this ad unit.

Nobody wants to burn a new feed! Therefore, I went to account migration guide link, which says:

Google will soon provide a self-service process to migrate from an account on the original FeedBurner website to a Google Account. Currently, migrating your feeds from from FeedBurner to a Google account is a manual process. We will assist you directly to ensure a successful migration. The only way you can use AdSense for feeds is through your Google Account.

To migrate all of your feeds, and your account from feeds.feedburner.com to Google, please contact us at adsense-support-aff@google.com and provide the following information:

Your FeedBurner account username

The Google Account email address you use to sign in to AdSense

We will migrate your account and contact you with specific steps for you to follow once migration is complete.

This not only made me a little disappointed but frustrated as well. Why should I switch to another feed? Why didn’t Google do it, in the first place? I am also hesitant to transfer my feeds at the moment, before anyone successfully transfers it. Do let me know if it works for you.

Facebook Is Not Only The World’s Largest Social Network, It Is Also The Fastest Growing

According to TechCrunch, Facebook is not only the largest social network, but also one of the rapidly growing social networks around the world as compared with orkut and MySpace. In the month of June it got upto 132 million unique visitors. According to an estimate bu comScore, Facebook is growing 153% on annual basis, compared with a 3% growth rate of MySpace.

Look at the stats and feel the difference:

Growth rate in North America for example is also growing at a satisfying 38% rate, while Europe growing 10 times as fast.Much of these huge growth numbers come from the fact that Facebook had hardly no presence in many of these regions until recently when it started its major push to translate the site to other languages.

Still there are many countries and countless users who haven’t singed-up for Facebook. Therefore, it is expected that Facebook will grow and will have more traffic and unique visitors in the up coming years.

New Firefox 3 Digg Extension

I have not been using digg for some time, the main reason because I get less diggs on my post, but if you do then you should probably check out the new Firefox 3 Digg extension.

Now, no matter where ever you are, you can discover popular digg stories and can stay up to date. You can also see what your friends are upto, whether they are digging, submitting or commenting on other stories. With Digg Toolbar you can see Digg counts and number of comments. View new stories become popular on Digg in a small notification window at the bottom of the browser. You can also Digg and submit stories directly from the toolbar.

StumbleUpon Finally Removes 200 Friends limit

Great news for all those who use StumbleUpon – a web content discovery service with upto 5.7 million members. Recently, StumbleUpon announced that they are making some changes on how profiles are setup and also have lifted the limit of adding 200 friends to your friends list. Now you can add countless friends and can get more exposure by using this great service.

This is what the Officials from StumbleUpon has to say:

“Over the next couple weeks we are going to separate the social & content aspects of friendship on SU, so you can subscribe to someone’s favorites without necessarily becoming their friend, and become someone’s friend without necessarily seeing their stumbles. You’ll also be able to “Subscribe” to more than 200 stumblers, since we’ve changed the way they are stored in the database. Mutuals will just be “Friends”, fans will become “Subscribers” and you’ll simply be “Subscribed to” stumblers who rate great content.”

I am so excited on this that these new changes will allow me to make new friends with StumbleUpon members and check out some of their Stumbles, something that i couldn’t do in the past. Also, I had to remove friends from my list who weren’t active anymore or had left StumbleUpon,to add new active StumbleUpon members, so that they could stumble the articles I like. Now I don’t have to worry about this anymore.
