Today, I’ll demonstrate steps to make more income by optimizing your site posts and blogs, by carefully following a below pointed out tips and methods.

1. Display Ads near Content

Try and place ads near the content like below the title or simply after or within the posts since people first fixing their gaze to your blog post content. And always use the biggies i.e. try to use rectangular or square or vertical formats.

2. Customize your Ad’s display

Try your imagination and look for some attractive color option for your Adsense ads. Don’t use the default thing which is Blue color for title, dark colored for text and green color for the link since everybody uses this and readers will move away believing that it is only any stupid advertisement resulting you in loss of income from Adsense (frequently)

3. Try using Channels

Try to use Google clicks and impression tracking feature available in your account – “channels”. This will help you help you in getting a thought about your most viewed page of your blog and then place in line with it.

These are a series of 3 important tricks to optimize your Adsense earnings. Besides that you may look Adsense Blog for the tips supplied by them. You can also take aid of Adsense Heat Map to find out your blog type and incorporate your ads based on it.

There are a million and one ways in which you can get hacked and even if you apply every single defense you can think about, there is no guarantee that your hosting account and the sites you host are safe. However, this doesn’t mean that there are no little steps you can (and should) take in order to defend your sites from hackers. Hosting nerds know many useful tricks and one of them is how to change some files in your hosting account from Read and Write to Read-only.

If you aren’t a hosting nerd, maybe you are wondering why you should bother changing file permissions. The answer is easy – because when your files can be modified (i.e. when you have enabled the Write permission for them), this is a security risk.
Not all files in your cpanel hosting account are subject to the same risk level and this why you need to know which files are to be modified. There are files, which are more important than others and which are easier to modify to include malicious code in them. When a hacker gets hold of such a file, he or she can add a virus code. Later on, when somebody loads your page in his or her browser, his or her computer will get infected – this is the way viruses are distributed all over the Net.

Which Files Need a Special Protection?

There isn’t a universal prescription which files need to be protected but generally the list includes host’s file, or a file with access permissions, such as the .htaccess file in your cpanel account. Files with hardcoded usernames and passwords for database access are also very vulnerable.

In addition to them, database files (i.e. those files with an .mdb extension) and .txt files are also a lucrative target for a hacker. Finally, one more group of files in need of special protection are .config files. .config files store different kinds of configuration settings and if such a file is hacked, this could cause a lot of problems for you. This is why you need to make .config files read-only as well.

How to Make Files Read-only

The exact way in which you can change a file from Read and Write to Read-only varies depending on the operating system your website hosting provider uses. Basically, if your website hosting uses cpanel hosting, you need to log in first and then you can make any changes.

If the operating system of your hosting provider is UNIX, you can change permissions with the chmod command. You can change permissions only for files you are the owner of. 777 permissions are to be avoided for any file with important data.

If your website hosting provider uses Windows and IIS, then you can change permissions to Read-only from File Manager and Explorer. You need to know that when you set permissions for a folder with subfolders, the permissions are automatically inherited – i.e. all the subfolders and the files in them inherit the permissions for the parent folder but if you need to set specific permissions for an individual files, you can do it.

If Windows 7 is in your use for some time now, you might have noticed that it does not allow you to pin icons directly on to the taskbar. For instance, if you have tried dragging and placing ‘Recycle Bin‘ on the taskbar, you probably might have noticed that it gets pinned under the Windows Explorer rather than appearing as a separate icon on the taskbar as it normally would appear in Windows Vista orWindows XP.

In order to place a ‘Recycle Bin’ you’ll need to tweak it a little bit. The idea is very simple; create a shortcut and point it to the original Recycle Bin and then place that created shortcut onto the taskbar. Now the question is how are we going to point a shortcut to the original Recycle Bin folder? Simple; add a small snippet (code) to it.

This is what you will have to do to place an icon on to the taskbar;

Step #1. Right-Click on the desktop and go to New->Shortcut (its the second option from above);

Step #2. Now add the following line in the item box;

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe shell:RecycleBinFolder

Step #3. Hit Next, type a new name, in this case; Recycle bin and hit Enter;

Once the new icon is created, you’ll notice that it does not have the right icon image. In order to counter this problem, Right click on the icon, select Properties from the menu,

Step #4. A new pop-up window will now appear, click on the ‘change icon‘ button (as shown below) and hit Enter;

Step #5. A small window will pop out, type the following code inside the item box;

%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll

Step #6. Now look for the appropriate Recycle bin icon, once you have found it, select and hit OK. Reference screenshot below;

The last step is to drag and drop the newly created icon onto the taskbar. You can then delete the original icon if you want to. Told you it was simple! Image Courtesy: TweakWin7

It took Mircrosoft long enough to figure out the compatibility issue of .ISO files (a.k.a. disk image) which persisted in the older versions of Windows. Previously, users had to download a third-party tool to burn .ISO files to DVDs. Gladly, that issue has now been catered for. The upcoming OS system – Windows 7 – detects and supports .ISO files.

With Windows 7 friendly user interface, you can burn tonnes of .ISO files with ease. Here is what you have to do;

Sometimes you are in a mood to fool your friends but are unable to think of any prank. What could be more fun to create a fake computer virus that once executed displays a ‘shutdown system‘ message and eventually shuts the system down after the specified time has elapsed. Harmless but fun!

Any one can create this fake computer virus. In this tutorial I will demonstrate a step by step procedure on how to create a fake virus in Windows. If you find any trouble understanding the trick, drop a comment.

How to Create a Fake Virus

Step #1. Right click on the desktop and from the menu go to New->Shortcut,

Step #2. A window will pop up, simply type the following command to create a fake shutdown message,

shutdown -s -t 300 -c “This is a fake Virus!”

-t represents time in seconds, in this case its 300 secs (5 minutes). You can set to any value you want.

-c represents comment. Here you can type any comment which will appear in the shutdown message. Don’t forget to write your message between quotes as shown above.

Step #3. Click Next and then you’ll be asked to enter a shortcut name,

Step #4. Enter any shortcut name that you think is more likely to be clicked by your friends; in this tutorial however, I have entered – firefox. Click Ok and you’ll see a shortcut on your desktop.

However there is one problem, the icon doesn’t seem to be a Firefox icon as seen below, therefore we’ll have to change the icon.

Step #5. For this right click on the icon, click Properties->Change Icon. A warning will appear click OK.

Step #6. Next up, you will have to select the appropriate icon against the shortcut name. If for instance, you have typed ‘Internet Explorer‘ as a shortcut name, scroll and select IE icon for this and in case you have typed Firefox or any other program, you will have to browse through the directory where that program is located. Once you are in that folder, select the icon and hit Enter.

Presto! Now you have a proper icon. However, there is a shortcut arrow appearing on that icon. If you want to make this prank look more realistic, follow the procedure mentioned here to remove the shortcut overlay, else skip it.

Now when ever some one will click on the icon, it will generate a system shutdown message. After the specified time is elapsed the system will shutdown. This will certainly give your friend a hard time figuring it out as to what went wrong with the system.

The best part is that you can’t close it using the conventional way, no matter how hard you try, not even through the Task Manager. There is only one way to stop the counter. Here’s how:

How To Stop ‘System Shutdown Error’ Message

Go to Start->Run or use the WindowKey+R combination,

Type the following command,

shutdown -a

-a represents Abort. The shutdown message will disappear once this command is executed.

I am in a bad habit of installing all sorts of applications that I think could be useful, not only this makes my system run slower, some of the applications add themselves to my right click context menu. Now each time I right click on any folder or file, it takes some time for the menu to load.

This seems really annoying, while most of the application asks whether the user want to add applications to their taskbar or desktop, but some of them don’t. So how do you take care of unwanted applications that end up on the context menu and adds up to load time?

In this tutorial, I will demonstrate a simple registry hack that would allow you to edit/remove any unwanted application, thus making your context menu cleaner and easier to load.

This hack is divided into two types; one is to remove programs from files context menu, while the other one is from folder context menu. But before you begin, make sure you have made a backup of the registry – here; this would help in case any thing goes wrong.

Edit right click menu for files

1. Go to Start Menu, and click on Run (if you are using Windows Vista, type run inside the search bar to open.)

2. Now enter; regedit and hit enter,

3. A Registry Editor will pop up on your screen,

4. Follow the path as shown below;

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\

5. Once you are inside the Context Menu Handler folder, you will see a list of folders that are being displayed on the context menu.

6. Choose any folder that you want to delete, there are two ways to delete a registry either you delete the folder by right clicking on it and then selecting delete from the drop down menu, or simply click the folder and on the right side of the pane, you’ll see a file, double click on it. A small window will open, it will contain some values as shown below;

Just append a ‘-’ (minus sign without quotes) at the extreme left of the value. Click OK when you are done, Reference screen shot below;

This will remove the application from the file context menu. The reason we choose the second option is that you can bring back the same application that you have just removed, just by removing the minus sign.

Edit right click menu for Folders

Now if you want to remove the program from the Folder Context menu as well, you will have to follow a slightly different procedure,

Inside the Registry Editor, go to

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\

Under the ContextMenuHandler folder you will see a list of files that are on the context menu. Just follow the same procedure as mentioned above starting from step #6 and onwards.

Once you have done all this, restart your system for changes to take effect. Source

If you find that you are blocked from your favorite websites, use one of these web proxy sites to get around the block.

The network administrator has to enter all website addresses which he/she wishes to block by hand into the firewall, but with these websites you can unblock any website that was ONCE blocked by the admin of your school or office.

Previously, we had a discussion on how to disable autorun feature in Windows XP, as this feature might harm your computer. The reason we gave was that when ever you insert any removable media storage drive, such as a USB or a CD/DVD, you run into the risk of infecting your system without ever being knowing about the virus.

The only solution to this problem is to permanently disable autorun feature so it won’t create havoc for your system anymore. Although, Windows Vista has given the flexibility to disable this feature, which wasn’t as easy in case of Windows XP. Despite that, there are so many options which might confuse a user, especially a novice one; who don’t know which option to choose and which not to.

However, if you ever run into this confusion, just don’t panic! We have compiled a nice walk trough that will smooth out the process.

Disable Autorun feature in Windows Vista

Go to ‘Control Panel‘ and open it,

Under the ‘Hardware and Sound‘ menu click on ‘Play CDs or other media automatically‘,

Disable the first option that appears in the pop up window, which says; “Use AutoPlay for all media and devices“,

This will disable all the media storage devices, including USB drives, CDs/DVDs etc.

Select any feature to disable it

If you are looking for more control, you can selectively choose which option you want to disable, by first clicking the drop down menu at the right side of each option and then set it to ‘Take no action‘.

For instance, if you want to disable ‘DVD movies‘ from automatically running, you can set it to ‘Take no action‘ and then Save changes.

Disable Removable Flash Drives only

Perhaps you want to prevent your flash drives and not your CDs/DVDs. For this, you have to specify each file type that might exist in the flash while you plug-in and follow the same procedure mentioned above. For instance, most USB (Flash) devices contains ‘Audio and Video files‘ , ‘Pictures‘, ‘Software and Games‘ and most importantly, ‘Mixed content‘.

Window will automatically, detect and take appropriate action depending upon the files (file type) inside the USB. If you have any other Windows related issue, drop a comment and we’ll answers it.

Data carrying devices such as USBs and/or MP3 devices could be very helpful in carrying large chunks of data from one place to another. You can place it in your pocket and carry it anywhere or everywhere you go.

Despite, it usefulness these portable storage devices could easily be affected with harmful viruses, such as Torjan, Spywares, Malwares, etc and even worse is that whenever you plug them back in to your system, the auto run feature will boot up the pen drive automatically, thus infecting your computer by those viruses.

Likewise, Auto run feature in Windows could also prove very annoying. A small window will pop up each time you insert the pen drive into the computer, asking what you would like to do with those files. However, there’s a simpler solution to these problems.

In order to get rid of the Autorun feature in Windows XP, you will have to follow the procedure mentioned below;

1. Go to Start Menu, click on Run;

2. Type “gpedit.msc” (without quotes), and hit Enter,

3. A window will pop up, titled ‘Group Policy‘,

4. Click on ‘Administrative Templates‘ and then inside it, click ‘System‘,

5. On the right side of the pane, you will find an item labeled, ‘Turn off Autoplay‘

6. Double click on that item. A new window will pop out,

7. Under the settings tab, click the ‘Enabled‘ radio button and save changes.

Now you won’t have to worry about either the annoying pop up nor the viruses infecting your computer on USB insertion. This trick will not only help you prevent viruses entering your system, but if you are suspicious you can format your USB pen drive also.

If you have any other quires don’t hasitate to comment.

Facebook is one of the largest social network on this planet and is growing at a rapid pace. The reason that Facebook is so popular among all ages is its highly interactive interface, you can do all sorts of things in Facebook, like playing games with your friends, send them gifts, poke them etc etc. Not only that it keeps you connected with your friends and family all the time.

So what if some one tries to snatch all the fun by blocking Facebook? Certainly this will make you disturbed and angry. There are many places such as schools, colleges, workplaces etc, where you feel the urge to connect with friends, but can’t.

It doesn’t matter if they have blocked access from Facebook or any other social media site for that matter, you can still manage to interact with your friends. Here are a few tricks that I have gathered which will help you unblock Facebook. But be careful not to get caught doing this!

1. One of the most easiest trick to access Facebook is through proxies or from proxy sites. Despite its advantages, Proxy sites can be very annoying and sometimes spammy. However, if you are determined to use it, here are some of the recommended sites that will bypass firewalls;

UnBlockFacebookNow

Facebook Proxy

If you want more, here is a huge list of proxy sites that certainly will help you out. You should also try this article.

2. Another trick is to use your PC as a Remote control to access sites that are blocked at school or at work. The only problem you could face while installing a Remote Control application is that you might not have the privilege to install it on your school or office PC’s. Therefore, there is a fifty fifty chance of getting this right. In case you want to try is, some recommended applications include;

Crossloop

Remote Admin

3. Last but not the least, install this application by Facebook, titled Access Facebook at School. What this application does is that it looks for accessible proxy sites which could later be used to access Facebook on the go. Install this app onto your computer and spread the word among your friends to install this as well.

So whenever anyone of you faces a problem of blocked site, you can ask your friends to send you the URL so that you may bypass it. Nifty isn’t it?!

In the end, if you follow any of these tricks, don’t forget to clear your Browsing History and cookies when finished, because a good criminal never leaves a trace behind! (Joke)

Which one of these trick will you prefer and why? If you have any other trick that you would like to share, just drop us a comment below and we’ll add your idea to this post.

There are moments in your life when you feel very angry at some one, may be because he or she has hurt your feelings or any other reason. If you are in a bad mood and don’t want to face that person and still want to express yourself, you would probably send him/her email, expressing all your angry and telling him how much you hate him/her after that incident.

But once you click that ‘Send‘ button, you realize that you were too hard/rude to that person and wished that you shouldn’t have sent that mail earlier. Moreover there is nothing you can do to prevent it.

Not any more! With Gmail’s Undo feature you can take back everything that you said. With just a push of a ‘Undo’ button (see screen shot), the mail that you sent couple of moments ago can be retrieved back to your inbox!

(Credit: Google)

In the past couple of months, many new features have been added to Gmail, such as Voice and Video feature, Smileys and Gmail themes etc, but Undo Sent is something out of the box. There are so many other instances where this feature can be very helpful, for instance, if you have mistakenly sent an email to the wrong person or you have misspelled something in the context etc. etc.

However, this feature doesn’t come by default, you’ll need to set it yourself manually. In order to activate the Undo Send option;

1. Log-in to your Gmail account

2. Click on “Settings” in Gmail and then the “Labs” tab.

3. You will find the ‘Undo Send’ feature somewhere at the bottom of the page.

4. Enable it and click on ‘Save Changes’.

Voila! Now you won’t have to regret about it any more. But remember that you have only 5 seconds take make the decision, or else that mail will be delivered to its destination and then there’s nothing you can do to prevent it. Although, Gmail have plans to extend this ‘delay time’ to 10 seconds, however nothing can be said about the future at this moment.

What I am going to tell you isn’t rocket science, but I still wonder why people keep on asking this on blogs and forums; even I got several emails from my readers asking me whether there’s a way to check who signed-in to their Gmail account while they were away? Is there any way they could check/verify when and who logged into their accounts?

Yes, there is! There’s no trick and no hack involved. The only ingredient that you’ll need is ‘Attentiveness‘. You’ll see what I mean; here’s is what you have to do;

Note: This post does not help you against hacked accounts. For more tips and tricks, visit.

1. Sign-in to your account,

2. Scroll down and the end of the page,

3. Look for ‘Last account activity‘ as illustrated in the screen shot,

This displays your when you last logged-in to your account. If for instance, you have logged-in after 10 hours or so, while the counter displays something else. You’ll know some one else has signed-in while you were away.

4. If you want more details such as, Date & Time, IP Address, and browser information; simply click on the ‘details‘ link.

If you look at the screen shot above, you’ll notice that Google keeps track of all the necessary information. If you find any thing suspicious going on, change your password as soon as possible before matters get even worse.

Drop a comment to share your views about this procedure.

Sometimes Facebook fans claim that their Facebook profile is being indexed by major Search Engines, such as Google, Yahoo! and Live etc, thus exposing their privacy. This holds true, even if I enter my name; i.e. ‘Musab Zain’ in Google, the first result that appears on Google is of my Facebook profile. Indeed its a serious issue.

The good news is that you can edit the settings and STOP Google and other search engines from indexing your Facebook profile forever. The process is very simple and anyone can follow it. Here’s what you have to do;

1. Sign-in to your Facebook Account,

2. Click on ‘Settings‘ which is on the top right corner of the page,

3. Under the Settings section, click on manage privacy (5th option from the top),

4. Now click on ‘Search‘; reference screen-shot,

5. Look for ‘Public Search Listing’ and un-check the box which say;

Create a public search listing for me and submit it for search engine indexing

Voila! Now your Facebook profile won’t get indexed by Search Engines anymore. Another direct route is by Searching your ‘Profile Name’ on SE and once you have found it, click on that link.

On the right you will find a box, titled; ‘This is a preview of your public search listing’, underneath it, click ‘Edit search privacy settings’. And follow the procedure mentioned in Step #5.

1. Log-in to Gmail account,

2. On the top right corner, click on ‘Settings‘,

3. Under the Settings, click on ‘Accounts’ tab’,

Recently, we have covered a few tips on how to associate a shortcut key to an application in Windows and similarly to your favorite browser. Associating shortcut keys can be very helpful as it save you a lot of your precious time and work.

Today, we’ll share some more useful tips regarding Windows that hopefully will prove very useful for your future reference.

First up, how to maximize or minimize a window using keyboard shortcuts?

1. In order to minimize an active window, use any of these two combinations; WindowsKey+M and/or WindowsKey+D. Please note, with WindowsKey+D combination you can also restore/maximize the last active Window.

2. For Maximizing the window, use the following; WindowsKey+SHIFT+M. This will maximize the previously minimized window.

3. Sometimes when you open any window, it might not stretch to the full size of your monitor’s screen. Now to tackle this, use – ALT+SPACEBAR+X. Your active window will now fit inside the whole screen.

4. If you have more than one Window opened at any given time, using ALT+TAB key combination will allow you to switch between Windows.

5. In the end, if you would like to close the active window, press ALT+SPACEBAR+C – in order to close it.

Have you used any of these keys before? Do you think they are useful? Share you views with us.
